The sandalwood comes from plantations in the semi-arid grassland region of Western Australia. Sustainability regulations and a dedication to development of the industry ensures an exceptionally high quality raw product.

All Subtle Bodies incense sticks are pure wood products with no added perfume or fragrance. Each burns with a heavy, yet delicately scented smoke trail.

Unlike other incense on the market, Subtle Bodies Japanese style sticks have only two ingredients; the fragrant wood as their name suggests and a natural binding wood from either Machilus thunbergii, Litsea glutinosa or Phoebe zhennan. This single origin approach ensures full transparency, with a genuine understanding and appreciation of each incense.

The Australian sandalwood industry has flourished for over a century. Early commercial plantations (Santalum spicatum) were established in the late 19th century in Western Australia, primarily to supply growing international demand for sandalwood oil in the perfume and cosmetics industries. With a 25 year maturation age, carefully planned plantations were established with the aim to fulfil the continued demand for sandalwood, while illegal logging dominated and depleted the industry overseas.
